The removal of stains and tartar deposits using hand instruments, polishers and ultrasonic scalers. When many years have passed between cleanings or a person naturally develops a lot of tartar, or is a heavy smoker, a DEEP cleaning may be required.
A Deep cleaning is also called Scaling and Root Planning, which may require some local anesthetic and nitrous oxide (relaxing gas) to make it more comfortable.
